A lot of the homes built before 2000 have metal pipe duct work and also Goodman grey plastic ducts. While air may flow through these ducts fine there are a couple of problems that can happen. Take the metal duct for instance; it is typically wrapped with fiberglass insulation and the outer cover is usually a white vinyl that is stapled at its seams. The problem starts when the staples start to come apart and the fiberglass insulation opens up exposing a bare metal duct. In the summer time when you have cold a/c blowing through that duct it is going to cool the duct and because the attic is hot you then have a cold metal surface in a hot environment and condensation will form. That condensation can them run down to the bottom of the insulation surrounding the duct and over a period of years molding can occur. Now let's look at the plastic duct; it is a flexible duct that is wrapped in fiberglass and then sealed with plastic. Plastic ducts are not energy efficient because they absorb heat, and that makes it pretty difficult to make those long runs to the rooms in your house that are a ways away from the a/c unit. Also plastic ducts are susceptible to UV rays and extreme temperatures. The plastic ducts often bust open exposing the bare liner to the extreme temperatures in the attic and skyrocket your utility bills.

Here at HeatBlockers we inspect all of your a/c ducts before we do any work. If there is any rips splits tears we wrap that section of the duct with radiant barrier and seal it with radiant tape. This service is only .49 cents a foot per material used and is a minimal cost in comparison with having your ducts replaced. If your a/c ducts are on top of your insulation or pretty close when we install the radiant barrier over the insulation in your attic we can cover over the a/c ducts as well. This will provide them maximum protection, increase their performance dramatically, allow them to make longer runs more efficiently and give you colder air at the register in the summer and warmer air in the winter. Again HeatBlockers is committed to providing you with common sense services without charging ridiculous prices.
